I hate giving in to advertisements. If a commercial comes on for food or anything else, I make a conscious effort to not buy that product. I feel like companies are trying to manipulate me, but I try not to let them. When they do get the best of me, it honestly makes me upset.
At Davis basketball games they hand out these coupons for a free slice of pizza at Uncle Vito's. Obviously, this is a marketing ploy to get people in the restaurant, get people to spend money beyond the free slice, and spread their name throughout the community since it's a fairly new restaurant.
The other night, Jill and I didn't have anything to eat for dinner so we decided to use our Uncle Vito's coupons. Alright, no harm there. They're not benefiting off of us since we're getting everything for free. However, once I got to the front of the line to order, I decided that one slice of pizza wasn't going to fill me up (pause). I used the coupon and spent an extra $5 on the second slice. I regretted that decision immediately. Their marketing ploy worked. To top it off, I spent an extra $2 on a drink. Instead of getting a free dinner, I ended up spending $7 on some very sub-par pizza and an overpriced drink all because I let their marketing ploy get the best of me. It's been five days, and it's still bothering me.
