One and One

I've been wondering this since I was a little kid: why isn't there a one and one rule in the NBA? There are a lot of rules that differ in the NBA from college for whatever reason like the shot clock, charge line, defensive three seconds, mandatory timeouts, etc, but I really think the one and one rule should be instituted in the NBA.

I asked one of the assistant coaches for UC Davis why there isn't a one and one rule in the NBA like in college and he didn't know either. It changes the game completely at the end of games.

It would add more excitement. There is so much more pressure on the front end of a one and one versus the first of a two-shot foul. This makes comebacks more likely and penalizes poor free throw shooters too. Dwight Howard? Sorry, you have to sit on the bench. Rondo, you too.

If anybody has any insight regarding the lack of a one and one rule in the NBA, I'd be very interested to hear.
